Explore the treasures of the Thames in Writing, Poetry and Archaeology


In our final week of Ebb & Flow we get the chance to explore our city’s river in many ways. Express yourself and develop your writing skills with WritingWorks at 12pmPlaywritingWorks at 2pm and PoetryWorks at 3pm. Consider the movement of the river with a special chance to try the Nia Technique in DanceWorks at 4pm, and reflect on calmness in a busy world with the final MindWorks session in this series at 5pm. In the evening local archaeologist Fiona Haughey will introduce us to Bankside Archaeology at 7pm. Join us to discover what the banks of our River Thames can reveal to us about the past and our neighbours from long ago.

Our creative theme of Journeys and Transitions arrives at its final week, and we will be celebrating in style! It is your last chance to get involved with the BookswapPlaying with Purpose at 2 pm and Teatime Tales at 3 pm are ending for now also. Looking forward, come and share ideas for future Film Works at 2 pm and hear about the Purple Ladiesupcoming workshops at 5.30 pm. In the evening we will be celebrating Mental Fight Club’s publishing partnership with Pavement Pounders on Transitions 3: A Journal of Crossings from 6.30 pm. Wonderful poetry, prose, music and song including a very special performance by Ben Okri, patron of Mental Fight Club. Definitely one not to miss!

Grand Bazaart transforms the East Room in celebration of World Mental Health Day.

Tate Modern collaborates with a range of arts and mental health organisations including CoolTan Arts, Portugal Prints, Seymour Art Collective, SlamAdArt, Studio Upstairs and South East London Arts Network (SELAN).

Join our creative art workshops in the East Room and listen to poetry, performance and spoken word.

CoolTan Arts guided Largactyl Shuffle tour

Level 4 Structure and Clarity
15 places to be booked on a first come first served basis at 13.20 on the day (Level 4 concourse).

Largactyl walk leaders take the public on an afternoon tour around the Structure and Clarity display looking at a range of modern and contemporary artworks. The tour includes a selection of artworks around the theme of light, colour and mood, highlighting the artist’s histories and politics. This interactive tour includes the opportunity for the audience to express their views and take part in a creative activity.

We are a group of creative individuals, and artists, just like you who happen to have suffered issues of addiction at some point in their lives.

SlamAdArt installation has been made possible with support from the Maudsley charity.

South East London Arts Network (SELAN) – Patchwork or Doodle the View Workshop

Draw the amazing view from the East Room, write a poem or create your own idea onto acetate. Your creation is then added to a Georgian window looking out to St Pauls Cathedral.
