This is a great opportunity for service user consultants with an interest in working alongside staff to take forward equalities issues to improve mental health services.

SLaM has a single equalities scheme which tries to address inequalities focussing on the following issues: Age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religious belief and disability. Each clinical academic group needs to develop systems to make sure that this scheme is integrated into their work. This initial workshop aims to explore what the priorities are for the mood, anxiety & personality clinical academic group and to identify some next steps.

What skills and / or experience do I need?
For paid service user consultancy, this would suit someone who
• Has experience of and confidence in participating in meetings where there are more staff than service users
• Has experience of SLaM services for mood, anxiety & personality disorder
• Has a broad understanding of equalities issues and mental health
• Can concentrate for 2 hours

For unpaid service user participation this would suit someone who
• Wants to develop their confidence in participating in meetings with staff
• Has experience of SLaM services for mood, anxiety & personality disorder
• Has an interest in equalities and mental health
• Can concentrate for 2 hours

Paid work or voluntary?
There are places for 4 paid service user consultants (meetings rate) and 2 unpaid.

Is support available?
People can be met with prior to the workshop and /or talk on the phone. The SLaM single equalities scheme is also available to read for those interested.

SLaM (South London and Maudsley NHS Trust) are coming to ask service users what they would like from an Arts Strategy; What does taking part in Art (including dance, music, painting, creative writing and more…) mean to you and how does it/could it impact on your recovery? Service User Consultants from SLaM will be holding a confidential Focus Group as part of our Open Meeting and would very much welcome your attendance and ideas.

There will also be a chance to come and have a go at some different ‘ART FORMS’

· Singing
· Creative writing
· Expressive art

And also to ‘showcase’ your own work if you would like – read a poem you have written, a piece of creative writing, show some art work, music or anything else you may want to share!

This is an exciting opportunity to develop peer lead initiatives that promote recovery for for those using mental health services. You will preferably have personal experience of using mental health services.

You will have extensive experience of developing and managing a range of projects and services that support service users and staff. You will be a self starter and able to work using your own initiative with minimal supervision. This post will involve working across Lewisham Adult Mental Health Services at a variety of sites including Community and Inpatient settings.

You will bring to this post your experience of all areas of project management including project planning, financial and staff management. This post will bring you into contact with a wide range of stakeholders so it is essential that the postholder has excellent communication skills and can build effective working relationships.

As this is a new post, you will be expected to respond and meet the demands of the project as it develops. It is essential that the postholder is flexible as this may require working outside of core (9am – 5pm) hours.

This post is on a 3 Year Fixed Term contract.
