Simon Hughes Visit to TWIG Ops: reminder

Dear all,

Simon Hughes is coming to the August meeting of TWIG Ops (the Trustwide Involvement Group: Operations) for one hour.

We met with him recently about ESA and workfare, and TWIG Ops decided that it would like to use this hour to raise ESA related issues with him.

If you have a brief point you wish him to hear, or a question you wish him to consider, please let us know and we will raise as many as possible time permitting.

We need your points and questions by Monday 22nd July.

We will also do our best to publish the questions and answers on the blog, as part of the minutes of the meeting, although as these have to be ratified by the following meeting, there will be a delay in publishing. We are hoping that we can get permission to tape the session, then we can type it up and publish it separately.

It won’t be possible for us to give individual replies.

We thank you in advance for your engagement.

TWIG Ops letter to Simon Hughes

Simon Hughes February letter for blog

Are you getting too many emails from us?

We are currently making lots of posts on our blog which we hope you are finding interesting.

We do know, however, that for some people it might feel like you are being bombarded by information and that your email Inbox simply has too many emails coming into it.

It is really very simple to decrease the amount of emails from us to either daily, or weekly every Monday. So if you choose daily or weekly, you will get all of our posts in a digest in a single email, once a week, or daily the following day, as you choose.

To change your current settings, simply click on an email from TWIG Ops, then go to Manage Subscriptions  towards the end of the email.  This will take you to a page where you can make the alterations.

This page will show you the blogs that you are following via WordPress.com.  Next to each blog, in the delivery frequency column there is a drop-down box (simply click on the little arrow) where you can make the changes so that you get the amount of emails that suits you.

TWIG Ops Communications review January 2011 to December 2012

TWIG Ops (the Trust Wide Involvement Group: Operations) was constitutionally established in November 2010, when the pre-existing SLaM TWIG group split into Operational and Strategic groups.

Before TWIG Ops first met (in February 2011) we launched the blog, with the view that it would be key to meeting our brief:

The operational arm of the Trust Wide Involvement Group is designed to ensure that a wider range of service users are involved in the improvement and development of SLaM services.

The blog came into being on 25th January 2011 with 5 posts and an impressive 45 hits (views) for the week. We posted about who we are; what we aim to do; an invitation to join us; a jargon buster; and details of some training we offer (on how to be involved in meetings).

We didn’t post anything in February, but we had 114 hits, and our first subscribers.

In March we posted our first open competition paid opportunities.

In April we posted our first things from external partners including those in the field of ‘arts and culture’ and our first campaign post, about a march and lobby of Parliament about cuts affecting people with disabilities, as well as paid and volunteer opportunities, consultation events, job vacancies and a report of one of our first projects: monitoring the changeover of food provision on in-patient wards in Southwark.

In November we issued a statement signed by service users in support of SLaM UNISON staff on strike over their pensions.

We also published all minutes from TWIG Ops Committee meetings in the spirit of total transparency, as we continue to do.

By the end of 2011 we had posted 125 things, had 4313 hits, and been viewed in 30 countries.

These “hits” are on top of subscribers who for most posts can just read them in their email in-box, without the need to click on the link.

blog hits and posts 2011

In 2012 we posted lots more ‘news’ items, and we also started to post motivational and inspirational posters and images, as resources.

In 2012 we posted 373 things, nearly 3 times the number we posted in 2011, and we more than doubled out hit rate to 11,036 for the year.

blog hits and posts December 2012

In 2012 we were viewed in 84 countries: 2012 country stats. (NB we could only get a breakdown from 25th February: 81 countries.)

In total, between 25th January 2011 and 31st December 2012 we posted 495 posts and 8 pages; and the blog has had 15,349 hits: remember these hits are on top of subscribers who for most posts can just read them in their email in-box, without the need to click on the link.

In September and October 2012 we consulted on the blog and you can see a narrative of our summary of the findings and of our actual and proposed actions here: TWIG Ops Blog Survey narrative 2012

Our Twitter account, @slamtwigops, was opened on 17th November 2012.  We have 23 followers, have tweeted 250 times and are following 55 people/organisations.  Our followers range from individuals to the Maudsley NHS Trust to Rethink and Reachout Challenge in Croydon.  We follow anything/anyone that comes up of interest again from individuals such as great people like the Mental Elf and Mental Health Cop to the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Mind.  We try to retweet items and articles that we think will be of particular interest to our followers and potential followers. Our tweets are now starting to get retweeted and mentioned in others tweets – such as BlackDogTribe and the Dragon Cafe.

Our Facebook page SLaM TWIG Operations http://www.facebook.com/SLaMTWIGOperations was started on 2 December.  It has now been “liked” 14 times – essentially we have 14 followers.  We have posted over 80 times – some of these posts are now being reposted on other Facebook account pages.  The Facebook page is directly linked to the twitter account so every post made by us is automatically tweeted.

All postings on the SLaM TWIG: Operations blog are posted on Facebook and tweeted to try to maximise the audience.

We are very grateful to everyone who sends us posts and to all our subscribers: we would urge you all to help us spread the word, and make 2013 an even more successful year for us all in this venture and its purpose:

The operational arm of the Trust Wide Involvement Group is designed to ensure that a wider range of service users are involved in the improvement and development of SLaM services.

With all best wishes,

Angela, Bridget, D and Tom
