Volunteering at the Dragon cafePosted: April 4, 2014
Want to volunteer at the inspirational Dragon Cafe – a creative event space – working in the field of mental health and well-being?
What is The Dragon Café all about?
The Dragon Café is open Mondays only which attracts over 200 people each week. The Dragon Café is open to all, providing a safe, stimulating creative space with art on the walls, freshly prepared vegetarian food from the kitchen and a wide range of creative groups happening throughout the day (reasonable charge for food and drink; all activities are free and open to all). Daytime groups have included writing, art, tai chi, boxing, mindfulness, gardening, dancing, singing, drama, film making, drumming. The evening events can be performances, creative talks, discussions, dancing or games nights!
Mental Fight Club
Mental Fight Club is the organisation which created and manages The Dragon Café. Since 2003, Mental Fight Club has held many creative events exploring mental health issues popping up in various venues across Southwark. The Dragon Café is the first time that MFC has manifested in a regular form and location.

Volunteering at The Dragon Café
If you come to volunteer at The Dragon Café on Mondays, you will be provided with a Dragon Café T Shirt and a token for delicious food from the Dragon kitchen. Mental Fight Club pays for your travel expenses up to £10 per day worked (need full receipt). If you work between Mondays, travel and food expenses are also given where agreed with £10 limit per day.
We have about fifty volunteers that work at the Cafe on a Monday. We aim to run a team which is open-hearted, supportive and enjoyable for all who work with us. We provide free regular training in our mindful working and reflective ethos as well as hold free quarterly review days.
Remember, The Dragon Cafe is open Mondays only.
