Get involved: SLaM membershipPosted: September 8, 2011
Are you a member of SLaM?
Why should you join? It allows you to have a voice.
What does becoming a member actually mean?
If you become a member of the Trust, you can help ensure that we are more accountable to the people we provide services for, and that we are better at listening to people’s views.
We’d like members to be active in helping shape our services for the future, but it is up to you to decide how much you want to get involved. There is no cost involved in joining. You’ll be invited to attend events and you’ll receive regular information about the Trust. We will also ensure that you are consulted on specific issues affecting the Trust.
How do I join?
Anyone who lives in England and Wales can join the Trust as a public member.

Annual Public Meeting (APM)
The APM takes place between 5.30pm and 7pm on Tuesday 13 September 2011 at Glazier’s Hall, 6 Montague Close, London Bridge, SE1 9DD. Refreshments will be provided and there is an opportunity for attendees to meet the SLaM Members’ Council and Board of Directors. To attend or for further details please email Communications@slam.nhs.uk or telephone 020 3228 2830.
Membership and Member’s Council Elections
An important part of being an NHS Foundation Trust is having a membership made up of service users, carers, staff and members of the public. The membership has a say in how the Trust is run and the ‘voice’ or executive arm of the membership is the Members Council. For more information on becoming a member or standing in the upcoming members, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 020 3228 5376.
If you are a member of SLaM you will be sent information by post in October about voting for a representative in your constituency (that is you vote for a member in the category in which you registered. So if you are registered as a service user you can vote for a service user member of Council or for a public member if you registered as a public member or a carer member if you registered as a carer or a staff member representative). Please use your vote it is one of the ways you can influence the direction SLaM takes in the future.
